Model Railroading - Model Train Kits
by Jeremy Vaness
When it comes to building model trains there are absolutely no boundaries. Your age, gender, and race do not matter when sharing a passion for model train building. Because of this, model train kits make the perfect gift for just about any one. Every year manufacturers are coming up with new and improved models. The models come in all shapes, colors and sizes so there is bound to be something for everyone. Some of the most widely known model brands amongst children are the Thomas and Tank engine and Hogwarts Express brands. Some manufacturers even make models based on famous movies! There is so much variety in this hobby that there is something for the beginner and the veteran.
The N and Z scales are the smallest scale sizes available. Due to their small size it is recommended that adults use these models because the small parts could be hazardous for a small children. If you are building a model railroad for the first time you may want to consider ready-made kits for beginners. These kits feature a simplified assembly process as well as many different designs to choose from. If you are just getting started there are many railroad modeling clubs and societies that you can join, which I highly recommend.
When first starting out with the hobby, one might want to get a complete beginners set. These sets are usually small and assemble quite easily. Also, they usually contain all of the parts needed for a complete layout. These sets allow you to get your foot in the door and learn the basics.
When you are ready to build a model layout with individual components that you choose, it is important to be patient as the assembly tends to be much more difficult than a ready-made model train kit. Although it is more difficult to build a layout from scratch, it is also much more rewarding.
